Nearly
two-thirds of the young people consulted said they wanted
a youth website. Here it is!
The
idea for a website came about fom a Youth Consultation Exercise
undertaken in 2003 for the Market & Coastal Towns Initiative
(other current projects include the formation of a Youth Council,
and the development of a Youth Café).
This
is a website for young people, and young people have been
involved in the desgin process from the very start - including
discussions as to the style and format of the website, as
well as the actual content.
As
the website continues to evolve, it is hoped that more and
more of the content will come directly from the young people
themselves; one young person is currently acting as coordinator
/ subeditor to facilitate the creation and sourcing of website
content.
The
overall aims are for this website to be informative, educational,
useable, enjoyable and interactive - and at all times for
it to feel 'owned by' the young people themselves. (One complaint
made by young people is that other youth websites are "boring
and don't allow you to have an opinion".)
future
ideas ...
funding
possibilities are being explored to fulfil ideas and requests
not within the current budget, including:
-
secure areas for messages and discussions
(these would be accessed via a membership scheme)
- extension
of the 'showcase' gallery area
- the
formation of a freeform, magazine-style area offering opportunities
for online creativity for all age groups
- training
for young people who want to learn any aspects of website
building
- software
to enable non-technical users to directly update webpages
- addition
of ongoing online consutation via polling technology, to
provide statistical feedback and trends indications
The
website you are viewing now is just a beginning!
